Two in hospital following accident on Highway 97

Backed up traffic stretches out from the crash scene.

VERNON - Two people are in hospital with serious injuries following a car accident that happened 2 km north of the Predator Ridge turnoff this morning.

The accident took place about 8:30 a.m. but Vernon RCMP Sgt. Kara Triance of the Vernon RCMP says it's not known at this time what caused it. She describes the accident as "very serious".

It's believed the drivers were the sole occupants and the only people injured. They were transported to Vernon Jubiliee Hospital. It's not known at this time when police will finish their investigation or when the area will be cleaned up and traffic back to normal.

Traffic is backed up, but Mounties have one lane open with alternating traffic passing through.

Sgt. Triance asks motorists to be cautious and careful as they move through the area.
