Two in custody after 'dynamic takedown' in Vernon: RCMP

VERNON - RCMP officers made two arrests after a vehicle attempted to flee from police this week.

Police received a call around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 10, that a known prohibited driver was in a vehicle at 4300 32 Ave., according to an RCMP media release.

Officers converged on the area and the driver of the vehicle attempted to speed away, driving in what the RCMP say was an "unsafe manner."

According to the release, officers managed to surround the vehicle and disable it from moving any further. A "dynamic take down of the two suspects was executed," RCMP say, and both the driver and passenger were arrested.

"Often motivating factors for suspects to flee from police outweigh their regard for public safety and they will do anything to avoid being taken into custody," RCMP Const. Kelly Brett says in the release.

Vernon residents Deidra Ferguson and Robert Lampreau were both taken into custody. Ferguson is facing possible charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, obstructing police, driving while prohibited and possession of a controlled substance. Lampreau is facing a possible charge of breach of probation order.
