TRENDING NOW: Ukraine wins Eurovision 2022 in symbolic stand with country

Ukraine's rap and pop group Kalush Orchestra has taken the top spot for Eurovision 2022.

Results were tallied Saturday May 14 for the song contest, which includes bands from 40 European countries.

Kalush Orchestra performed their song Stefania. Originally written to honor frontman Oleh Psiuk's mother, the song has been repurposed amid the war in Ukraine against Russia to serve as an anthem for the country.

The band was named after the Ukrainian city of Kalush. Set in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, it serves as a mascot that inspires the band to involve different folk elements and authentic Ukrainian music within their songs, according to Eurovision.

A video of the group's performance has reached the top sixth trending spot on YouTube, May 15, with more than seven million views.
