KAMLOOPS – Early this week Tourism Kamloops announced a rebrand from the original and nearly 12-year-old brand of ‘Playtime Redefined’ to the fresh motto of ‘Boldly Unscripted.’

Tourism Kamloops is the local group in charge of marketing Kamloops as a tourism destination and having a brand to lean on is a big part of what they do.

To be clear, the new brand is separate from the City of Kamloops' slogan of ‘The Tournament Capital,' which drives home the idea of Kamloops as a sport hosting destination.

The group was still using the original motto and the company was due for a rebrand, according to Monica Dickinson, of Tourism Kamloops. It was officially launched on May 16.

"It's quite remarkable, to be honest, most brands are reinvigorated every five years or so," Dickinson says. "It was time to have a refresh, for sure."

Tourism Kamloops staff will work with City staff to try and mesh the two brands together.

Part of the new marketing strategy is a roving 360 Kamera Krew. The group will be out and about in Kamloops over the next year, filming “real moments with real people” and coaxing people into an adventure or spontaneous change of plan.

“You will find our Kamera Krew at typical traveler stopping points along the highway where they will challenge people to change their plans - to give Kamloops a try,” Beverley DeSantis of Tourism Kamloops says in a release. “If the challenge is accepted, our Krew will make them the stars of their own adventure and share their moments online.”

Results of the campaign will be posted online.
