Too soon to know cause of Kamloops motel fire

A fire at a Columbia Street West motel gutted two rooms and displaced residents on July 13, 2024.

A fire that gutted two motel rooms in Kamloops started inside the building, but it's too soon to say how it started.

There were no injuries after people at the Hospitality Inn awoke to flames inside a room around 4 a.m. Saturday, July 13.

Jeff Pont with Kamloops Fire Rescue said the residents were displaced by the blaze.

The investigation has so far found the motel fire started in the centre of one of the rooms, but it gutted two of them before it was doused, destroying exterior walls on either side of the building. It also heavily damaged the front of an SUV parked in front of the rooms.

Kamloops RCMP was also called and officers spoke with witnesses on the scene.

"It's unknown if (the fire is) suspicious at this time," spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in an email.
