Tips from the public help Penticton RCMP identify arson suspect

Penticton RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with a recent arson in the city.

Penticton RCMP and Penticton Fire Department were called to 686 Martin Street on Aug.30 around 8 a.m. after an attached garage at the residence had been set ablaze.

There were people in the residence at the time but no one was injured.

Police recovered surveillance footage of the suspect and asked the public for assistance in identifying him.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release investigators were able to identify and arrest a suspect on Sept. 18 after receiving numerous tips from the public.

The man has since been released with an order to appear in Penticton court on Oct. 28.
