Three people busted by Kelowna RCMP for stealing travel trailers

Despite determined efforts to flee by land and water, Kelowna RCMP were able to nab three people trying to steal travel trailers today.

The chase started when officers spotted a 2002 Dodge Ram truck at 12:30 a.m. today, May 18. It had been involved in a break, enter and theft of a travel trailer yesterday in the 300 block of Lougheed Road in Kelowna.

Inside were a male driver along with one male and one female passenger who were all known to police.

“After following the truck and the suspects, police observed the individuals break into a business in the 7800 block of Highway 97 North attempting to steal a travel trailer from a compound,” an RCMP news release says. “One of the men and the woman tried fleeing in the truck, only to have it get stuck on an embankment.”

They were arrested without further incident.

The other man tried to get away by swimming across Duck Lake.

“Shortly after his attempt, he decided to turn back towards shore where officers were waiting and made his arrest without incident,” the release says. There was a Canada-wide warrant out for his arrest.

Police are recommending charges against all three suspects.
