KELOWNA – Over 6,000 people took part in a celebration at Big White Ski Resort near Kelowna yesterday to send-off some of the Team Canada athletes who will be competing in the upcoming winter Olympic games.

The biggest crowd in Big White’s history gathered in the village centre yesterday, Jan. 6, for the Molson Canadian Olympic Team Send-Off party, according to a media release from the resort.

The athletes will be competing at the PeyongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea being held from Feb. 9 to 25.

Along with a chance to meet the athletes and get autographs, those in attendance were entertained by Canadian alternative rockers JULY TALK. The evening ended with a fireworks and laser show.

There was also a skate with former Canadian women’s hockey team captains Hayley Wickenheiser and Cassie Campbell.

“Today’s event took Big White to the next level and we were honoured to have the opportunity to host,” Michael J. Ballingall with Big White says in the release.
