An Ashcroft resident was surprised to see a futuristic semi passing through town yesterday and shared a photo on Twitter.

The Tesla Semi was being hauled through town yesterday, Feb. 9, by another transport truck.

The electric semis are already on the road, although production hasn’t taken the expected course.

The fully electric design was unveiled on Nov. 16, 2017, according to this Electrek report. Production was delayed until 2020 and a recent announcement to those who have put deposits down on a truck shows that production may be limited.

The letter to those who have put deposits on the electric truck states that they are being tested in difficult road situations, and may go from the previously thought 500 miles of range on one charge, to 600 miles.

Big businesses are getting on board with the environmentally-friendly and cost-saving creation.

A new distribution centre for Walmart is under development in Surrey, and the plant has committed to using a 100 per cent electric fleet of Telsa Semi trucks, according to a Walmart media release. Twenty trucks have been ordered for the Surrey location, which is expected to open in 2022, and another 20 have been ordered for other parts of Canada.

iNFOnews.ca has reached out to Tesla to find out why the electric truck was being hauled through Ashcroft, but so far the company has not responded.
