A new tourist attraction touted as Canada’s highest suspension bridge is ready to open this May near Golden, B.C.

The Golden Skybridge features two expansive suspension bridges connected by forested nature trails at the edge of the Columbia and Rocky Mountains just outside of Golden.

Opening just as extensive construction work gets underway on the Trans-Canada Highway between Golden and Banff, the new attraction could be a welcome stop for construction-weary travellers this summer.

The bridges soar 130 and 80 metres above the canyon floor, offering dramatic 360-degree views of nearby mountains. Below, a 61 metre waterfall is part of a fast flowing mountain river underneath.

The new adventure experience is operated by Pursuit, an attractions, hospitality and entertainment company, in partnership with a group of local developers headed by Paul Deutsch and Rav Soomal.

Pursuit spokesperson Michelle Gaudet says the company is planning a May 15 opening for the Golden Skybridge, which is part of the Rocky Mountain Adventure Park. The attraction also includes a tandem bungee swing and a 1,200 metre zipline across the canyon, both of which will open later this summer.

A three kilometre long nature walk with viewing platforms strategically placed to offer stunning views is also planned for the attraction.

"At Pursuit we are focused on connecting guests to iconic places through unforgettable and inspiring experiences. Whether you’re staying in Golden or making it a stop along your journey between Alberta and British Columbia, the Golden Skybridge will soon become an iconic experience for Canadian and international visitors alike,” Pursuit President David Barry said in a press release issued earlier this week.

Paul Deutsch says with the Town of Golden now emerging as a basecamp for adventure seekers exploring the Columbia and Rocky mountains, he expects the adventure park will be a part of the continuing burgeoning growth of the region’s tourism industry.

Rocky Mountain Adventure Park and the Golden Skybridge are located two minutes off the Trans-Canada Highway just outside of Golden.
