Targeted shooting in Kamloops sends man to hospital

Kamloops RCMP are investigating a shooting that took place on the North Shore earlier today.

Police say a 24-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds a short distance away from a disturbance at a home in the 300-block of Alexander Avenue.

RCMP were called to the area today, Dec. 30, at 5:19 a.m., according to a RCMP news release. The victim was transported to a local medical facility and is being treated for his injuries.

“We are at the preliminary stages of this investigation. The residence and people involved are known to police and are associated to the local drug trade. As such, the shooting is believed to be targeted,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay said in the release.

“However, any time criminals resort to using firearms in residential areas, it does pose a risk to the public at large.”

RCMP are currently on scene and a police presence is expected in the area today.

Anyone with information about this shooting, or the people involved, are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
