KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets lost 3-1 to the Seattle Thunderbirds at Prospera Place in game six of the WHL Western Conference Championship last night, April 30, eliminating the Rockets from the playoffs.

With the win, the Thunderbirds advance to the WHL Championship against the Regina Pats.

Rockets forward Nolan Foote opened up the scoring, creating a 1-0 lead for Kelowna going into the second period, according to a Kelowna Rockets media release. However during the second period, the Thunderbirds scored three goals, giving them a two goal lead going into the third and final period.

Although the Rockets had multiple chances, Seattle goaltender Carl Stankowski stopped every attempt.

For three Kelowna players Sunday’s game was the last of their WHL career. The overage players include goaltender Michael Herringer, and forwards Reid Gardiner and Rodney Southam.

Herringer ends his WHL career with 115 games under his belt and a 2.88 goals against average.

Traded this year from the Prince Albert Raiders, Gardiner led the Rockets in the post season with 15 goals and 13 assists. During his WHL career, Gardiner scored 124 goals and made 133 assists, totaling 257 career points in 290 regular season games.

Team captain and Hollis Peirce Award winner, Southam had a total of 101 career points, with 41 goals and 60 assists.
