Police officers and firefighters wearing hazmat suits prompted some concern yesterday afternoon for residents in Kelowna’s Rutland neighbourhood.
Nearly 24 hours later, RCMP have issued an explanation.
Police received a report at around 1:30 p.m. yesterday, March 19, about a suspicious package delivered to a resident, according to an RCMP media release.
The caller as concerned because the package was unexpected and came from outside of Canada.
RCMP and the fire department decided it would be better to be safe than sorry and treated the package as hazardous.
Officers and firefighters in hazmat suits analyzed the package, the person who called it in was isolated and the area was cordoned off.
RCMP said eventually the package was confirmed to be safe and was seized for further analysis.
