String of North Okanagan drug raids uncover large quantity of fentanyl

VERNON - Police have arrested five suspected drug dealers believed to be responsible for bringing large quantities of fentanyl and other drugs into the Vernon area.

Police conducted searches at two North Okanagan properties on Jan. 25, 2019 and found street level packages of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, Canadian currency and other drug trafficking paraphernalia, according to an RCMP media release.

A 65-year-old man and a 54-year old woman were arrested at their Kalamalka Road residence in Vernon, where police found a significant quantity of cocaine, along with body armour and other drug trafficking-related items.

A 37-year-old woman was also arrested at her Pinantan Lake home where police discovered cocaine, methamphetamine, large quantities of suspected fentanyl, Canadian currency and other drug trafficking related items.

RCMP say five people suspected to be involved in a "dial a dope" drug trafficking scheme have also been arrested on three different dates. Street level packages of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, Canadian currency and other drug trafficking paraphernalia were seized.

"This was a very successful investigation targeting a group from the street level dial a dope dealer to the person we believe responsible for bringing drugs into the Vernon area," RCMP Sgt. David Evans says in the release.

RCMP also arrested two Vernon men on Dec. 14, 2018 and searching their property and found a large quantity drugs, restricted weapons, Canadian currency and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

All the suspects arrested have been released from police custody as the investigation continues, police say. A report will be submitted to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada for consideration of appropriate charges.
