Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,838.33 down 52.56points):

Uranium One Inc. (TSX:UUU). Miner. Down eight cents, or 3.67 per cent, at $2.10 on 5,322,157 shares. The metals and mining sector led the decliners on the main index, down 1.27 per cent.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down 17 cents, or 2.08 per cent, at $8 on 4,041,084 shares. The December gold contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange dropped US$10.20 to $1,612.60 per ounce.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 27 cents, or 2.46 per cent, at $11.23 on 3,933,138 shares.

Bankers Petroleum (TSX:BNK). Oil and gas. Up 26 cents, or 9.45 per cent, at $3.01 on 3,448,310 shares. The Calgary-based company posted second-quarter profit of US$11.3 million or 4.4 cents per share, an improvement from year-earlier $10.8 million or 4.2 cents per share. Oil revenue increased 16 per cent to $98.6 million.

Progress Energy Resources Corp. (TSX:PRQ). Oil and gas. Down 22 cents, or 0.98 per cent, at $22.33 on 3,342,375 shares. The energy sector dropped 0.69 per cent to 254.94 points on the main index. The September crude contract on the Nymex dipped 14 cents, ending the day at US$92.73.

Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR). Miner. Up a penny, or 5.71 per cent, at 18.5 cents on 2,883,089 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,197.37 up 6.37 points):

Porto Energy Corp. (TSXV:PEC). Oil and gas. Up two cents, or 28.57 per cent, at nine cents on 9,724,126 shares.

Pinecrest Energy Inc. (TSXV:PRY). Oil and gas. Up five cents, or 50 per cent, at 15 cents on 5,486,000 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Research In Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM). Down 20 cents, or 2.43 per cent, at $8.02 on 2,151,503 shares. The Ontario government and two universities in the Waterloo region will team up with the BlackBerry maker in helping laid off workers to find jobs and/or develop skills to start their own businesses.

TMX Group (TSX:X). Stock market operator. Down $2.75, or 5.53 per cent, at $47 on 478,490 shares. Maple Group Acquisition Corp. completed its long-extended offer to acquire the operator of the Toronto Stock Exchange on Friday.
