Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,601.13, up 76.23 points):

Extorre Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:XG). Miner. Up $1.73, or 68.11 per cent, at $4.27 on 53,479,919 shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI) announced a $400-million cash-and-stock deal Monday to buy the junior miner with a promising gold-silver project in Argentina and raised its dividend. Under the deal, Yamana will pay $3.50 in cash and 0.467 of a Yamana share for each Extorre share. Holders of Extorre options are eligible for 0.2648 of a Yamana share for each Extorre share that would have been issuable.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurance. Up 27 cents, or 2.51 per cent, at $11.01 on 16,787,420 shares.

Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Chartered bank. Down 34 cents, or 0.66 per cent, at $50.99 on 13,153,920 shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up 14 cents, or 3.58 per cent, at $4.05 on 12,426,578 shares. Bombardier Aerospace says it has bought land near the airport in Casablanca's free zone that offers five years of no taxes and other financial incentives for a manufacturing facility set to open next year. The company will pay no taxes for five years, 8.75 per cent for another 20 years and 17.5 per cent thereafter.

Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down eight cents, or 0.68 per cent, at $11.63 on 9,348,841 shares.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up 24 cents, or 0.83 per cent, at $29.25 on 8,978,815 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,259.75, up 8.73 points):

Trelawney Mining and Exploration Inc. (TSXV:TRR). Miner. Up one cent, or 0.3 per cent, at $3.30 on 5,201,209 shares.

Eloro Resources Ltd. (TSXV:ELO). Miner. Up 2.5 cents, or 38.46 per cent, at nine cents on 4,507,989 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Baja Mining Corp. (TSX:BAJ). Miner. Up three cents, or 20 per cent, at 18 cents on 896,767 shares. Baja said Monday that one of its largest shareholders has sued the company and is demanding an independent investigation into cost overruns at its Boleo project. The company said Louis Dreyfus Commodities Metals Suisse is also seeking the removal of executives and directors who it accused of not disclosing the overruns early enough.

Transcontinental Inc. (TSX:TCL.A). Media. Down three cents, or 0.32 per cent, at $9.48 on 156,707 shares. The company said Monday it is now the sole owner of the Metro Montreal newspaper, which it previously shared with newspaper publisher Gesca. Terms of the deal for the weekday paper and its interactive versions were not immediately available.
