Penticton will play host to the 2020 Canadian Sport School Hockey League Championships for the sixth time this March.

The sport school hockey league announced its return to Penticton today, Jan. 30.

This year’s event takes place March 5 to 15 at several Penticton and area rinks, including the Okanagan Hockey Training Centre, Memorial Arena and the South Okanagan Events Centre as well as some games in Oliver and Summerland, according to a media release.

All seven of the sport school hockey league’s western divisions will be represented.

This is Penticton’s sixth time as host for the tournament, which features 74 teams and 1,300 student athletes.

The event is estimated to generate $8.1 million to the local economy.

"We are excited to have the BDO CSSHL Championships in Penticton for the sixth time,” chief operating officer Kevin Goodwin said in the release.

“With the partnership we have with Spectra, along with the support we receive from the City of Penticton, Travel Penticton, BDO Canada and the Western Hockey League, we are able to put on a first-class event that showcases the very best in education-based hockey, while making a substantial economic impact to the local community.”

Tickets are $15 for a day, $45 for a division pass and $60 for a full 11 day pass. Admission for those under 18 years of age is free.

Tickets are available at www.valleyfirstix.com and in person at the Valley First Box Office at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
