PENTICTON - The Canadian Sport School Hockey League championships are returning to Penticton and area in 2019.
This year’s championship is slated for March 7 to 17 with seven divisions vying for a championship title, according to a South Okanagan Events Centre media release.
This is the fifth year the tournament has been hosted in Penticton, which has grown from 33 teams and 609 athletes, to 73 teams and 1,300 student athletes this year. The event is estimated to generate $5.4 million to the City of Penticton.
“We are excited to once again partner with Spectra to bring the championships to Penticton. The support we receive from the City of Penticton, Travel Penticton, BDO Canada and the Western Hockey League allows us to put on a first-class event,” chief operation officer of the championship Kevin Goodwin said in the release.
Most of the games are slated to take place at the Okanagan Hockey Training Centre, although some will be played at the South Okanagan Events Centre, the Memorial Area, and in Oliver and Summerland.
