New Year's Day polar bear swims were left out in the cold due to public health orders last year. In 2022, select cold plunges in the Okanagan and Shuswap are back for an in-person dips.
The Kelowna Polar Bear Dip is back with participants meeting on Tugboat Beach on Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. to take the plunge in support of the Community Recreational Initiatives Society.
The society offers trips that encourage people of all abilities, from a beginner to experienced outdoor enthusiasts, to participate in outdoor activities, and utilizes adaptive equipment to assist individuals with disabilities.
The Summerland Kinsmen Club's 36th annual Polar Bear Dip is back with all proceeds going towards local family and community projects.
Dippers will enter the water at Sun-Oka Beach in Trout Creek at noon.
However, the 2022 Peachland Polar Bear Swim has been cancelled.

The 7th annual Shuswap Lake Provincial Park Polar Bear Swim is welcoming swimmers to meet at the Scotch Creek Provincial Park boat launch at 11:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Swimmers, and their cheerleaders, are reminded to bring their summer beach bag.
In Vernon, the Polar Bear Swim at Paddlewheel Hall will finish the Winter Carnival on Feb. 13.
There are two swim times, noon for youth, and 1 p.m. for adults. Registration is $25 or a family, or $10 for an adult. All the funds raised go to the Zimbabwe Project Society.
No word on what is planned for the Kamloops Polar Bear Swim, but last year organizers encouraged people to take a virtual dip, post a photo to the Facebook page and make a donation to the food bank.
