As of today, anyone wanting to go for a dip at their local municipal swimming pool will need to be fully vaccinated.

Following a recent update to the provincial health officer, anyone over the age of 12 must be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination with a B.C. Vaccine Card to use a municipal swimming pool.

The new rules came into play today, Dec. 23.

Masks are required to be worn in the change rooms and should be worn to and from pools whenever possible, says a message on the City of Penticton's website.

The new rules come as the provincial government following advice from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry rolled out a wealth of new restrictions in the wake of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Bars and gyms were ordered to close, Dec. 22, while indoor events face a multitude of new restrictions or cancellations.
