A snowfall warning has been issued along Highway 3 in the Kootenay Boundary region.
Between this afternoon and late tonight, March 19, Environment Canada says the route will see snowfall amounts near 15 centimetres from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
Snow is expected to spread along high elevation highway passes today as part of a “vigorous system” that’s on its way through the B.C. Interior, reads the warning.
The amount of snow that accumulates will vary dramatically with elevation and on lower elevations, snow will begin changing to rain by the afternoon.
Periods of snow will intensify this afternoon to heavy snow near Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass.
Even when there are no warnings in place, Environment Canada reminds drivers that weather can always change suddenly in the mountains.
