If your plans today include a road trip to the Lower Mainland, it's going to take a lot longer than usual.

DriveBC says the southbound lanes on the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt were closed for several hours earlier today, Feb. 14, but a single lane is now open.

An overturned transport truck between Portia and Box Canyon is to blame for the traffic chaos in the southbound lanes for approximately 106 kilometres from one km sound of Merritt to two km north of Hope.

You can also expect heavy congestion and delays in the area of the crash and DriveBC asks drivers to watch for workers and obey traffic control personnel.

Detours are available via Highway 8 to Highway 1 from Merritt, and Highway 5A to Highway 3 from Merritt.

For the latest on the closure and road conditions throughout the province go to the DriveBC website here.
