B.C. Wildfire crews are battling a small wildfire located to the east of Okanagan Falls near Solco Creek this morning.
Gagan Lidhran, fire information officer, said there is currently a 20-person crew and a helicopter that is dropping water on the blaze.
As of last night, July 30, the wildfire was 1.5 hectares in size and classified as out of control, which is normal classification for newly discovered fires, Lidhran said. Three tankers also dropped water on the fire last night.
The cause is unknown and no structures are being threatened at this time, she said.
Category 2 and 3 open burnings are currently banned in the Kamloops Fire Centre but campfires are still permitted.
The B.C. Wildfire Service will assess the level of fire activity, current and forecasted weather conditions, resource ability and input from government and non-government agencies to make a decision on whether to implement a further fire ban including campfires, according to the service’s Facebook post.
