Vernon RCMP is currently investigating after several individuals connected to the sex trade industry were located in a vehicle not far from the property of a North Okanagan man convicted of multiple assaults on sex workers.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP confirmed the vehicle and the individuals were located in the 2000 block of Salmon River Road and had been called to the area to work in the sex trade industry. A member of the public called the police after seeing the suspicious activity, Oct. 15.

The location where the sex workers were spotted is near Curtis Sagmoen's family property.

Sagmoen has multiple convictions for various assaults against sex workers that he called to the large rural property.

RCMP did not say who called the sex workers to the rural area on Oct. 15, but they are investigating the incident.

In February, Sagmoen was found guilty of assault causing bodily harm after he purposely drove an ATV into a sex worker he had called to the property in August 2017. In December 2019, Sagmoen was found guilty of ambushing and pointing a gun at another sex worker he had called to the property weeks after the ATV assault. He was convicted on both occasions but having spent more than two years behind bars pending his trial, was released on strict probation conditions.

In June 2020, he was placed on 36 months probation for the ATV assault and barred from accessing the internet. The court also limited who he could speak to on the phone and stated he needed written permission to spend a night away from home.

In the fall of 2017, the remains of the body of 18-year-old Traci Genereaux were found at the Sagmoen family property. No one has been charged in connection with the discovery of Genereaux's body, and police have not said how she died.

The RCMP haven't given any more information regarding the Oct. 15 incident but are asking anyone with information or anyone who has received a request to attend the area for sexual services, to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.
