Severe thunderstorms possible in South, Central Okanagan

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the South and Central Okanagan this morning, June 11, 2020.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by Environment Canada this morning.

The watch is in effect for Central Okanagan including Kelowna, and the South Okanagan and Penticton, as well as the Boundary region east of the Okanagan.

Conditions are expected to be favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing strong winds, large hail and torrential rain.

Severe thunderstorms could develop south of the border this afternoon, moving north later in the day or this evening.

Heavy downpours could cause flash flooding or water pooling on roads. Residents are advised, ‘when thunder roars, go indoors.’

Alerts and forecasts can be monitored at Environment Canada’s website.
