The search for a missing Kelowna woman who may have been swept away in Mission Creek has been suspended again due to high waters.

Ed Henczel, with Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, said an intensive search was conducted yesterday involving a drone, an underwater team, a boat team, dog teams, a RCMP helicopter and roughly 50 volunteers including friends and family of the missing resident in Mission Creek Regional Park.

Chelsea Cardno was last seen leaving her home on Dougall Road South in Kelowna at around 8 a.m., June 14. She was heading to the park to walk her German shepherd named JJ and her white BMW was found parked at the north end of Pasadena Road.

We have covered that creek as good as we humanly can until the water levels drop,” Henczel said.

“For now, with the sudden increase in rain it’s just unsafe again so we’ll go back when the police tell us too,” he said. “We are looking for any sign right now, the jacket she’s wearing, the hat, the leash and collar for the dog.”

He also said residents have still been walking through roped off areas in Mission Creek Regional Park. The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre has warned people to stay out of those areas.

“All in all, short of finding anything, todays search as a success... we are all hoping the water levels and flow rates drop even more allowing for a safer search of areas currently unavailable,” Cardno's family wrote in a Facebook post.
