KELOWNA - Police have a suspect in custody after a man throwing rocks at parked cars in Kelowna was confronted by a citizen.
On Aug. 5 at around 1 p.m. police received a report of a man throwing rocks at vehicles parked in the 2000 block on Harvey Avenue, according to an RCMP media release. While police were responding, the suspect pedalled his bike westbound, continuing to damage vehicles.
In one of these vehicles was a father with his young child, and when the rock was thrown, he jumped out of the car and attempted to physically restrain the suspect.
“The adult male sustained non-life threatening injuries during his attempt to physically restrain the suspect," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the release. "Thankfully his child was not harmed during the incident.”
Immediately following the physical altercation the suspect fled into a nearby business. RCMP arrived on the scene and managed to apprehend the man as he was trying to escape out the back door.
RCMP say the 30-year-old Kelowna man was wanted on unrelated warrants. He faces a number of criminal charges and remains in police custody. He was expected to appear in court today, Aug. 6.
