OSOYOOS - Two men allegedly hauling 212 mature marijuana plants were arrested during a routine road check on Highway 3 in Osoyoos Sunday.

Osoyoos and South Okanagan RCMP were conducting the road check at about 3 p.m. on Highway 3 when the westbound rental moving truck and 2004 Dodge pickup towing a trailer entered the checkstop. Both cargo areas were thick with the scent of weed, according to an RCMP press release.

Both drivers were arrested and their vehicles searched. Police found and seized 97 mature marijuana plants from the inside of the moving truck and another 115 plants from the trailer. A shotgun was also seized along with matching two-way radios from each vehicle. The rental truck and trailer were impounded for retrieval by the company. The non-rental Dodge pickup truck was seized as offence-related property.

A 71-year-old man from Surrey and a 46-year-old Langley man face potential charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Both were released and will appear in court at a later date.
