Canada falls to Wales 29-14 in placement game at Hong Kong Sevens

HONG KONG - Justin Douglas scored a pair of tries in Canada's 29-14 loss to Wales on Sunday in a placement game at the HSBC Sevens Series stop in Hong Kong.

Douglas now has 133 career tries for Canada.

Ben Cambriani and Tom Rogers both scored in the eighth minute for the Welsh.

Canada fell to 1-4 at the event with the loss.

The Canadians faced Wales after a 19-0 loss to Kenya in the Challenge Trophy quarterfinals on Saturday.

Jeffrey Okwacha Otieno, Andrew Amonde and Eden Agero had tries for Kenya. Agero added two converts.

Earlier, Nathan Hirayama scored a try and added a pair of conversions as Canada topped Portugal 19-12 in pool play.

Harry Jones and Douglas also scored tries for Canada, which rebounded from a 24-12 loss to No. 10 France to open play Saturday.

Rodrigo Freudenthal and Rodrigo Marta had tries for the invitational Portuguese side.

Canada, ranked No. 12, also lost 19-14 to No. 8 Argentina in its tournament opener Friday.

The Canadians missed a chance at competing for the championship Cup with a 1-2 round-robin record.
