Residents of 25 homes in Penticton are allowed to return home after three days away due to the threat of a rockslide from above.
The City of Penticton said this morning a retaining wall will keep the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park safe so work can proceed overhead.
“Based on expert advice, we’re comfortable the new retaining wall will provide an appropriate buffer as we begin the next stage in securing the rock and this allows to lift the order for residents who will now remain on evacuation alert,” Emergency Operations Centre director Kristen Dixon says in a release.
On Nov. 21, 2023, the City was alerted to a large rock that had potential to fall and directly in the path of the park.
Dixon says rock stabilization should take weeks. Residents remain on evacuation alert. People are being asked to avoid the area.
