KAMLOOPS - An apartment building on Kamloops's North Shore is unliveable right now after a cooking fire destroyed three units this weekend.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Troy Grant says the call came in at approximately 4:15 a.m. Saturday, May 26, and crews arrived to see the west end of the building at 975 Tranquille Road fully engulfed.

Grant says the fire started from a cooking incident on the second floor, and that unit along with two units above it are completely gutted.

Crews attacked the fire from inside the building, Grant says, after it was evacuated. All residents of the unit have been displaced, but Grant could not confirm how many residents were affected.

A city bus arrived at the building on Saturday to take affected residents to the McArthur Island Sports Centre.

"Those people will be out of the building for, it could be up to weeks," Grant says, adding that there is currently no one staying in the building due to the damage.

No one was injured during the fire.
