Record high temperatures today in Kamloops, Salmon Arm

Kamloops and Okanagan residents had no use for snow shovels today as record high temperatures were set in Kamloops and Salmon Arm.

Winter continues to elude the southern Interior with high temperature records broken in Kamloops and Salmon Arm.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says a high temperature record was shattered in Kamloops early this morning, Jan. 13. The mercury climbed to 12.2 Celsius, breaking the old record of of 11.1 C set in 1945.

Salmon Arm also beat that community’s record high of 10 C in 1894, reaching 10. 6 C today.

Kelowna reached a high of 9 C today, and Penticton’s high is 10 C, but Lundquist says those temperatures are still several degrees away from record highs for Jan. 13.

The high temperatures were recorded early this morning in an unusual weather day that began with high winds and scattered thunderstorms across the region.

“You would have to have been up fairly early this morning to have heard them, I think they passed through around 2 or 2:30 this morning,” Lundquist says.

Warmer than normal temperatures are expected to continue at least into next week.
