WEST KELOWNA - Boaters out on Okanagan Lake over the long weekend should be wary of floating debris and the RCMP.
Police will be out checking for life jackets and valid pleasure craft operating cards, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a press release.
Life jackets must be properly fitted to each person onboard a boat, easily accessible and must be in good condition and approved by Transport Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard or Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the release said.
Failure to produce a valid operator’s card could mean the vessel will be directed to shore and may also be given a ticket under the Small Vessel Regulations.
