A BC nurse has been suspended for three days for taking a selfie in a hospital with a patient in the background.

According to a Jan. 25 BC College of Nurses and Midwives decision, registered nurse Brian Lee took a selfie of himself posing with some medical equipment in a patient care area.

The regulator said the photo breached patient confidentiality.

"The (nurse) shared the digital photo with other healthcare staff who were not involved in the care of the patient," the regulator said.

The incident took place at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, sometime in early 2024.

The nursing regulator gave very vague details of what took place and didn't say whether or not Lee intended to also capture a patient in the photo or not.

Regardless of whether or not it was a mistake, or done with malice, the regulator suspended his licence for three days.

Lee signed a consent agreement agreeing to his conduct.

The regulator said it is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.

No other information is given by the College.
