VERNON - A woman reported missing last month is now in custody on outstanding warrants.

Daley, 21, was the subject of two missing person alerts, the first in mid-February and the second earlier today, March 2. Police confirmed this afternoon Daley was located today and is now in custody on outstanding warrants.

It’s not the first time a missing person has been located only to find themselves arrested on outstanding warrants in the North Okanagan (iNFOnews.ca is aware of at least three similar cases), but police say those circumstances are treated as completely separate investigations.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett confirmed Daley was found and offered some context about the arrest.

“In this particular incident, she was reported missing by an external party, so that prompted the media release to go out. Whether or not a person has a warrant on them never negates our priority to locate them,” Brett says.

She says that as a policy, officers must physically locate a missing individual to ensure they are not under any duress, and once in contact with them, they can make arrests for outstanding warrants.

“Some people can have outstanding warrants for five years,” she says. “That’s something we try to take care of if we come into contact with them.”

First and foremost, she says, the priority is to find the missing person, whatever their circumstance.

The specifics of Daley’s warrants are not known.
