RCMP investigating after boat collides with lighthouse on Kootenay Lake

Police were called to assist with a marine incident on Kootenay Lake last week when a boat collided with a lighthouse.

Kaslo RCMP responded to the incident near the Harrop Cable Ferry in Balfour following a call from B.C. Emergency Health Services July 10 shortly after 10 p.m., according to an RCMP release.

Police initiated a support call to Kaslo Search and Rescue, as RCMP were told that at least one individual was still in the water. However, while police on route, Emergency Health Services updated that all boat occupants had made it ashore.

RCMP were informed that an area resident transported the boat's occupants off the water following the crash and secured the damaged vessel.

An investigation into the incident is underway, however, preliminary findings suggest that lighting conditions at the time and possibly alcohol contributed to the collision.
