Longest-serving member of the Quebec legislature released from hospital

QUEBEC - The longest-serving member of Quebec's national assembly has been released from hospital after being admitted for chest pains and respiratory problems.

Francois Gendron's office says he was allowed to go home Thursday after being hospitalized in Quebec City a day earlier.

A statement says the 69-year-old Gendron underwent several tests and that his health is good.

He has represented the northwestern Quebec riding of Abitibi-Ouest in the legislature since 1976.

Gendron is deputy premier and is also agriculture, fisheries and food minister.
