Two prep school hockey teams will take to the ice in Sun Peaks next month for a cancer fundraising event.
Shawnigan Lake School and Coeur d"alene Academy will face off on Jan. 6 for the inaugural Canadian Sport School Hockey League Winter Classic, according to the Canadian Cancer Society website.
The game and its fundraiser was initiated by grade 10 Shawnigan Lake student, Carson Usher, whose father has glioblastoma, according to a Shawnigan Lake School social media post.
The under-17 hockey game is being hosted at the resort through league partnership with the Hockey Fights Cancer charity, founded by the NHL and NHL Players Association.

The fundraiser well-surpassed its $2,500 goal, but will accept more. Donors will be entered to win a signed Quinn Hughes Vancouver Canucks jersey, according to the cancer society website.
The winner will get an email after the game to notify them.
All Canadian donations go to the Canadian Cancer Society for lodges, support services and transportation, according to the website.

"While we each may have our own reason for joining the fight against cancer, we are all united in our belief that we can make a difference," the website reads. "Be a part of the team! Join us on the mountain or donate today to support Hockey Fights Cancer."
The game is set to start at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 6, according to the Sun Peaks rink schedule.
