Prohibited driver hits Kamloops cop car in attempt to flee

A Kamloops man managed to avoid capture for several hours after allegedly crashing into a police cruiser last week.

He was arrested and released on bail with multiple charges, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

An officer patrolling downtown spotted a man who was prohibited from driving behind the wheel of a car on Feb. 9.

“Recognizing the area was crowded, the officer did not pursue the vehicle and instead, waited until he had relocated it in an alleyway on the 100-block of Nicola Street,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

The officer initially spotted the man around 1:15 p.m. and tried to bring him into custody shortly after.

“In the alley, the officer advised the suspect that he was under arrest, at which point he allegedly fled, striking the police vehicle in the process," Cpl. Evelyn said.

Other officers patrolled the area, but couldn't find the suspect or the vehicle.

Around 12:50 a.m. on Feb. 10, police caught him near the corner of Lethbridge Avenue and 8 Street.

Tyler Murray Larocque, 26, is charged with flight from police, driving while disqualified, resisting arrest, dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
