Prepare for a summer weekend in the Okanagan as heat returns

Okanagan Falls residents meet at Christie Memorial Park earlier this week. It promises to be great park weather this coming weekend with lots of sun and heat in the Okanagan.

Summer weather is returning to the Okanagan this weekend.

There’s no rain expected into next week, and temperatures are expected to climb above the 30 Celsius mark by Sunday, with lots of sun coming, Environment Canada says.

The warm up begins after today with temperatures nudging the 30 C mark by Saturday.

Today, expect a mix of sun and cloud this morning before clearing in the afternoon, with a high of 24 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 27 C in Penticton.

Winds should become southwest at 20 km/h later today.

A sunny day is expected Friday with a high of 27 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 29 C in Penticton. Friday's low is expected to to dip to 13 C.

That’s right on par with the seasonal normal daily high for this time of year, which is 27 C in the Okanagan.

Saturday, look for more sunshine, a high of 29 C and a low of 14 C.

Sunday should see a high of 32 C again, under sunny skies, with an overnight low to 16 C.

A mix of sun and clouds are expected Monday and Tuesday, with highs of 31 C on Monday, and 30 C on Tuesday.

Monday’s low is expected to dip to 15 C, 16 C on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s low of 16 C is three degrees higher than the Okanagan’s normal average daily low for this time of year, which is 12 C.

The warming trend will also be felt in Alberta as well, where The Weather Network says sun and warmer temperatures are expected after a cool week across that province. A return to a more active weather pattern is expected during the latter half of next week, however.

A series of overnight storms moving across the prairies that prompted tornado warnings in Saskatchewan are expected to roll into northwestern Ontario this morning, with the possibility of severe weather there today.
