That hotter than normal summer you’ve been waiting for in the Southern Interior may have arrived, along with a rising wildfire risk.
Following the month of June when weather patterns bounced around giving us lots of clouds, rain and cool temperatures, a strong ridge of high pressure is building in the region starting today, July 11.
Environment Canada's public forecast for the next seven days is calling for uninterrupted sunshine and above normal temperatures in Kamloops and the Okanagan.
However, Accuweather is making a bold prediction in its long-term forecast, and if you’re willing to buy into it, the forecaster says it's going to be sunny and hot for the next five weeks.
Accuweather is an American media company, based out of Pennsylvania, which provides commercial weather forecasting services on a worldwide basis.
The company's meteorologists are calling for mostly sunny Okanagan skies with temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s — without a hint of rain — all the way to Aug. 18, when clouds and a possible thunderstorm are predicted.
Kamloops might see a shower or two during that same period, according to Accuweather, but otherwise hot and sunny.
That’s great beach weather, but it could also spell the end of what has been so far a relatively slow fire season in the region, so enjoy the smoke free skies and campfires while you can.
