Premier calls byelection in vacant Kelowna West riding

January 17, 2018 - 10:09 AM

CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Premier John Horgan has called the byelection to elect an MLA for Kelowna West for February 14, fulfilling a pledge made late last year to have someone representing the riding during this spring's budget.

Kelowna West is the seat vacated by former Liberal Premier Christy Clark when she resigned last August.

Clark lead the Liberals to a slight majority during last spring’s provincial election but lost it to a coalition between the NDP and the BC Greens.

Ben Stewart is running for the B.C. Liberals, Robert Stupka for the Greens and Shelley Cook for the NDP.

General voting day is Wednesday, February 14, 2018 with voting places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advance voting is available from February 6 to 11 although not all advance voting places will be open all six days. Advance voting places and when they are open will be publishedon the Elections B.C. website. Where to Vote cards will be sent to Kelowna West voters ahead of advance polls.

Voting can be done through the Kelowna West district electoral office at 102B - 1979 Old Okanagan Highway, West Kelowna from now until 4 p.m. on general voting day. Mail-in voting packages can be requested through the office, on the Elections B.C. website or by calling 1-800-8683.
