UPDATE: West Kelowna highway re-opens after fatal shooting

FILE PHOTO

RCMP are now saying that a male was fatally shot in West Kelowna early Sunday morning, and that's what prompted the closure of a stretch of Highway 97 between Butt and Grizzly Roads.

"The investigation has the characteristics of a targeted shooting. The BC Coroners Service has also been notified and will be conducting a concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine a cause of death," the RCMP said in a press release, noting that the Southeast District Major Crime Unit is on the scene.

The highway re-opened just after 1 p.m. March 21.

Investigators are seeking anyone with information about this incident, who was in this area between 3:30 am and 4:30 am this morning, March 21, and particularly motorists with dash cameras who travelled the highway at this time, to contact the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
