B.C.’s police watchdog has been called upon to investigate the Kelowna RCMP’s actions following a fatal crash earlier this week.
Police responded to the 3100-block of Bulman Road just after 5:30 a.m. June 1 to a report of a fatal rollover collision.
According to RCMP, when they arrived on scene, they discovered a man, the sole occupant of the vehicle, had been ejected.
He was pronounced dead on scene.
Ronald J. MacDonald, Chief Civilian Director of the Independent Investigations Office, said they’ve been called in by the RCMP because a report about the crash was made earlier that morning and nothing came of it.
“The police attended the scene and never found the vehicle,” MacDonald said. “Police contacted us to determine if the actions or inactions (in finding the vehicle) played any role in the demise.”
The investigation is in its preliminary stages and doesn't suggest wrongdoing, he said.
The investigation will look into whether the officer did what was necessary to find the vehicle.
