Police watchdog investigating Kamloops RCMP officer's role in motorcycle crash

KAMLOOPS - B.C.'s police watchdog is looking into the involvement a Kamloops RCMP officer might have had in a motorcycle crash yesterday.

The Kamloops RCMP officer was conducting speed enforcement on Westsyde Road at around 4:20 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 3, when he saw a motorcyclist travelling at a high speed in the other direction, according to an Independent Investigations Office of B.C. media release.

The officer flipped on the cruiser's emergency lights and turned to follow the motorcycle.

"When coming around the corner, the officer found the male motorcycle rider had collided with a pickup truck," the release states. "The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with injuries determined to be serious harm."

The role, if any, the officer had in causing the collision is under investigation.

The Independent Investigations Office looks into all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.

Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the investigations office at 1-855-446-8477.
