Police remain silent in 2016 Kamloops-area homicide investigation

RCMP remains tight-lipped about a homicide investigation that began five years ago near Kamloops.

Before the body of Robert Leslie Gair was discovered near Barnhartvale, outside city limits, he was reported as missing, according to previous iNFOnews.ca reporting.

The Southeast District RCMP Major Crime Unit now handles the case and has been investigating since late 2016.

Although police believe Gair was murdered around Sept. 13, 2016, the public wasn't notified of the "continuing" investigation until April 7, 2017.

Following a request for information regarding the file, Southeast District RCMP had little to add.

"In order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, I am not in any position to provide you answers to your questions or any specifics about the case," Southeast RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey, said in an emailed statement to iNFOnews.ca on May 27, 2021.

The RCMP statement encourages anyone with information to contact the Major Crimes information line, but proactive calls for information have been few if any since the investigation began in 2016.

The Major Crimes Unit can be reached at 1-877-987-8477.
