UPDATE: Police launch homicide investigation after body found at Tk'emlups parking lot

The RCMP's southeast district major crime unit has launched a homicide investigation after the body of a young man was found at a Tk'emlups parking lot on Saturday.

The man's body, found in the shared parking lot of St. Joseph's Church and Qwemtsin Health Clinic, has been linked to a black 2014 Honda Accord, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

Multiple police units are working together with southeast district's major crime unit at the head of what Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn confirmed to be a homicide investigation.

RCMP have not identified the victim.

The car was found on Dallas Drive at Lafarge Road and police are looking for dash cam footage from the public.

“An extensive video canvass of areas related to this investigation is being conducted in hopes that investigators will be able to confirm a timeline of events to further this investigation," southeast district senior investigating officer, Insp. Brent Novakoski said in the release.

Along with officers from the southeast district major crime unit, the E Division major crime unit Surrey are also assisting in the homicide investigation. They are also assisted by officers from the Kamloops detachment serious crime unit, general investigations services team, forensic identification service, Tk'emlups rural detachment and the police dog service.

Police are seeking dash cam footage of the Chilcotin Road area and Dallas Drive area near Lafarge Road from the afternoon of Jan. 28 to the morning of Jan. 29.

B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the man's death separately.
