VANCOUVER - British Columbia's police watchdog plans to file a report to Crown counsel for consideration of charges after officers in Vancouver were allegedly involved in an altercation with a man who died in August 2015.
Nicola Collins of the Independent Investigations Office says the report regarding Myles Gray is expected to be forwarded "in the very near future."
The office says in a news release the length of its investigation relates to a number of issues, including a witness officer who refused to be interviewed for a second time.
A court document filed by the agency in October 2017 says an autopsy showed Gray had a fractured voice box, dislocated jaw, damaged testicle, broken eye socket and fractured sternum and that the cause of his death had not been determined.
The petition filed in B.C. Supreme Court sought to compel the officer to be interviewed but the police watchdog now says it was subsequently withdrawn after the matter was resolved between the two parties.
The document says Gray died after eight police officers responded to reports of a distraught man who was described by a caller as "apparently high on drugs and alcohol" and spraying a woman with a garden hose.
