Police investigating Vernon homicide

A recent court case has disclosed a homicide investigation in Vernon that it appears police have not told the public about.

Vernon RCMP applied to a provincial court judge in December 2023 seeking authority to continue holding evidence and other items seized in a homicide investigation.

The decision on that application, released March 27, 2024, reveals no other information or even dates of the homicide. All source materials for the application were sealed by the judge, meaning the information is not available through usual means.

Vernon RCMP hasn't returned phone calls on the subject.

The last homicide in the city they reported to the public was in June 2022, when Peter Visintainer was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the death of Wolf-Indigo Rudolf Beyer.

Visintainer is due for trial next year.

The RCMP has in the past said it's restricted from reporting homicides to the public unless public release is required to move an investigation and cite the federal Privacy Act.
