Police investigate Sunday South Okanagan shooting as homicide

A man shot at Osoyoos Indian Band died before emergency crews got there on Sunday morning.

An "associate" of the 61-year-old victim tried to save him before paramedics showed up to the 1000-block of Pine Ridge Drive around 4 a.m. Sunday, June 12, according to an RCMP news release.

Oliver RCMP later called in the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit to investigate what is suspected to be a targeted shooting.

"It is far too early to make any concrete determinations but early indications are that this was not a random shooting; however, we will continue to let the evidence guide us as we continue to investigate," Insp. Brent Novakoski, of the major crimes unit, said in a news release.

Novakoski said police are looking for witnesses and video surveillance that may help piece together what happened.
